The work and the why behind it
I have spent more than two and a half decades studying how technology reshapes institutions — and how institutions shape technology adoption back. That tension is where I live. I joined IFHE Hyderabad to teach in the MBA programme, and over time took on responsibility for the Centre for Distance and Online Education, which oversees learning for thousands of students who cannot be in a classroom every day.
My research began with mobile banking adoption and has tracked the digital wave through blockchain, AI, and now agentic systems. I am interested less in the hype cycle and more in the institutional conditions that determine whether a technology creates genuine value or merely disruption. That scepticism — paired with genuine excitement about what is possible — shapes how I teach, write, and advise.
Outside the institution, I write for a broader audience on education policy, AI governance, and the future of management education in India. I believe academics have an obligation to participate in public discourse, not just produce papers for credentialed readers.
My work has been cited over 400 times. My most-cited paper, on mobile banking adoption in India, has over 300 citations. I have published across social indicators, disaster management, applied economics, knowledge management, and AI in services — a range that reflects an abiding interest in how technology intersects with social systems.
